The New 2023 Kia K5
The Highly Rated and Under-Appreciated Kia K5 Sedan
The 2023 Kia K5 is an impressive family-size sedan that deserves more attention. The five-passenger sedan has attractive and aggressive exterior styling, a plethora of standard technology, and two powertrain options.
It’s also surprisingly affordable, especially considering the styling, comfort features, and standard safety technology. For the 2023 model year, Kia made a few changes to the trim lineup – reducing the number from five to four.
What’s Under the Hood
Kia offers the K5 in four trim levels. The entry-level LXS trim features a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 180 horsepower, 195 lb-ft of torque, and an eight-speed transmission. The GT-Line and EX also have this engine. The top GT trim has a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 290 horsepower, 311 lb-ft of torque, and an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The 2023 Kia K5 GT-Line trim has all-wheel drive, while the rest of the lineup has front-wheel drive. The 1.6-cylinder turbocharged engine delivers an EPA-estimated fuel rating of 27/37 MPG, while the 2.5-liter engine has an EPA-estimated fuel rating of 24/32 MPG.
The 2023 K5 sedan has a premium collection of standard driver-assistive features that enhance the peppy engines. All models have Forward Collision Warning, Forward Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Driver-Attention Monitoring, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Automatic High-Beam Headlights, and a Rearview Camera.
Optional equipment in the midsize sedan includes Reverse Collision Avoidance Assist, Reverse Automatic Emergency Braking, Intersection Assist, Lane-Centering Assist, Front-and-Rear Parking Sensors, a Surround-View Parking System, and Stop-and-Go Adaptive Cruise Control. These features let drivers have a semi-autonomous experience.
Stylish and Comfortable Interior Features
The entry-level 2023 Kia K5 interior includes cloth upholstery, a push-button start, remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additional tech features include Bluetooth, four USB ports, and a six-speaker audio system.
The GT-Line trim has sporty styling features like synthetic leather and cloth seats with a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. The Kia Connect infotainment screen grows to 10.25-inches with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Kia includes navigation, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, and wireless device charging.
Kia’s upper-level trims, EX and GT, have synthetic leather upholstery with heated and ventilated front seats. Both models have panoramic sunroofs, interior ambient LED lighting, and more USB ports. The GT has many GT-Line styling features and the upgraded 2.5-liter engine.
